Come Join Us for the 8th Annual
Harbor Walk and Run on June 13th! See our
Events page for more information. Our little girl was just under 2 when she was
diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma on August 14 2002. She had
never complained of any pain and was a happy girl. She had a very
slight bruise on her left eyelid and a week later on the other, I
knew then it was bad. Never in my wildest dreams could I have
imagined something this horrible. A tumor the size of a grapefruit
forcing its way through my baby's body, tumors in the orbits of both
eyes and bone marrow loaded with cancer, and not a single complaint.
Sophia received 5 rounds of chemotherapy, surgery to remove the
tumor in her abdomen, two autologus stem cell transplants, radiation
to her tumor sight and her orbits, experimental antibody treatment
at Sloane Kettering Cancer Center in NYC, and 6 months of accutane
(cys-retinoic acid). She was finally off treatment in December 2003.
Sadly Sophia relapsed in March 2004 with several lesions in both
legs. She had 6 rounds of various types of chemotherapy and had an Allogeneic Bone Marrow transplant the first week of
September 2004 in hopes to save her life. She however lost her
battle with this awful disease on December 23, 2004. She is our inspiration.
We
are all very lucky to be living in an age where we do not have to
sit and watch our children leave us. We have a chance to fight for
them. Please help us in this fight and make a
donation to Sophia's Fund.
May god always watch out for all the little angels, and help
Sophia's garden grow. |
